Gaggia Brera: Top Lights Blinking Simultaneously
These lights blinking simultaneously is a general error signal for the machine. This error signal is used as a catch-all for atypical machine errors. Do not confuse this with a similar machine signal, which is the middle row of lights blinking in rotation; this means the machine is rinsing.
This error will occur most frequently as the machine is turning on. Your machine does a few things when fully powering on (as opposed to returning from stand-by). On the Brera, the 4 flashing lights can mean one of 4 things:
1 - If the error occurs after grinding, it's the brew unit or brew unit gear related issue.
-
- You'll generally hear the noise of the brew unit attempting to shift after grinding has completed.
- If this signal appeared when you heard the brew unit moving for any reason, then it likely has something to do with the brew unit or brew unit motor.
- Gaggia Brera: Brew Unit Issues
- In most cases, this can be fixed at home.
2 - If the error occurs after pressing brew button, it's a grinder related issue.
-
- The grinder may run briefly or not at all.
- This would apply to a brew started with the short or long (top or bottom) brew buttons.
- May be able to be fixed at home.
3 - If the error during the first rinse cycle, then it's a pump, flowmeter, bad connection, or blockage related issue.
-
- Flow issues are far more common than pump issues.
- Boiler Spout and Selector Valve Cleaning
- May be able to fixed at home.
4 - If it's right when you turn the machine on, before any processes or noises occur it's an electrical issue.
-
- A repair is recommended for electrical problems of this nature.
- It may mean a thermostat needs to be replaced on your boiler, but could also imply a wiring problem, a different component, or a power board failure.
