Hario Technica 5-Cup Coffee Syphon Overview
Part coffeemaker, part chemistry experiment, syphon coffee brewing fell out of practice some time ago before being revitalized by the specialty coffee community. Hario's TCA-5 Technica Coffee Syphon is a marriage of science and craftsmanship for a truly unique brewing experience. The way it works is that you have two glass bulbs, one for water and one for ground coffee that are connected by a tube.
The water is suspended above a heat source until it begins to turn from a liquid into a gas. As the gas expands, it pushes the rest of the water up tube through a filter and into your ground coffee, beginning the brewing process. After that you can let your coffee infuse for as long as you like depending on your preferred strength. When you're finished, simply remove the brewer from your heat source, the coffee will then drain back through the filter and into the bottom bulb.
Syphon coffee brewing is known for produce smooth cups of coffee and is a truly unique preparation method. The Hario Technica 5-Cup Coffee Syphon requires no electricity and is designed to resist rapidly changing temperatures and thermal shock up to 248 degrees Fahrenheit. The syphon can be used with gas stoves and can brew up to 20 oz of coffee at once. Includes and alcohol burner, a reusable, washable cloth coffee filter and measuring scoop.
