Overview

The ECM Puristika is a single-boiler espresso machine that reimagines the relationship between home and barista. Super compact and eminently stylish, the Puristika features many of the same premium components and materials found in ECM’s flagship Synchronika like its PID controller and anthracite housing. In a first for ECM, the Puristika is an espresso only machine with no steam or hot water capabilities. Its unique design features a multi-position glass water tank, allowing for more flexible placement on the counter. It’s other distinguishing trait is the front mounted expansion valve knob for easy adjustment of brew pressure.

Features and Benefits

With its espresso-only design, the Puristika has been outfitted with everything it needs to pull consistently excellent shots. Amazingly the Puristika is an E61 machine and the smallest of its kind we’ve ever seen. The ubiquitous group helps maintain consistent brew temperature thanks to the active circulation of hot water from the 0.75 liter stainless steel boiler. Combined with a PID controller which actively regulates the brew temperatures, the Puristika is incredibly stable and allows you to fine tune conditions for your extractions.

Further refinement of your espresso can be achieved through the front mounted brew pressure valve which can set the expansion valve between approximately 8.5 and 12 bar. Located opposite the gauge on the top left of the machine is the stylish brew pressure gauge which matches the knob with a cool navy blue face with white lettering.

The Puristika's Fast Heat Up is a unique heating cycle that overheats the boiler so that it reaches brew temperatures even faster, just 10 minutes after switching it on. After a cooling flush, the super-hot water brings the group head and portafilter to temperature which helps to ensure optimal temperature stability.

Until you see it in person, it’s hard to overstate just how compact the Puristika is. At just 7.7” W x 13.7” D x 12.4” H, it edges out the Casa V as ECM’s single smallest espresso machine. That said, this was achieved by separating the 2 liter reservoir into a standalone component that connects to the back of the machine. The 4.75” diameter reservoir plumbs in with braided steel hoses and is made from beautiful crystal clear glass.

Why You Should Get It

If you love espresso, simplicity, and the finer things in life then you’ll love the ECM Puristika. Being smaller than most kitchen appliances, let alone espresso machines, it fits comfortably into any brew bar and budget. With impeccable style that’s impossible to ignore you can look forward to looking good when you start to explore the potential of your coffee.

  • Brew Pressure Knob

Bold and blue, the brew pressure knob takes the concept of an external OPV (over pressure valve) and runs with it. With your thumb and forefinger you can adjust brew pressures between 8.5 and 12 bar to your liking. For full symmetry the brew pressure gauge features the same navy color with bold white font.

  • Multi-Position Water Tank

In an inspired bit of engineering, ECM separated the water tank from the rest of the machine. Connected via the braided steel water intake and return lines, the 2 liter glass reservoir can be positioned to your liking behind or on either side of the Puristika.

  • PID Temperature Controller

The nerve center of the Puristika, the PID controller allows you to set your desired brew temperature within 1 degree (Fahrenheit or Celsius). In addition to controlling and regulating the boiler, it doubles as a shot timer while brewing, allows you to set a backflush reminder, and let’s you program the Puristika’s Eco Mode.

  • Fast Heat Up

The Puristika features ECM's Fast Heat Up programming, a unique heating cycle. When powering on, if the temperature in the boiler is 104° F or lower, the boiler will begin heating to 266°F and the PID will display "UP." A "FLU" message will display when it's time to flush. On E61 machines like the Puristika, the flush takes roughly 20 seconds and will have the boiler, group, and portafilter at brew ready temperature in 11 minutes.
