Essential Info:
With its full-feature set and modest design, the Krups FME2 is a 12-cup coffee maker that easily fits into any kitchen and any lifestyle. The Krups FME2 features a blue, backlit digital display that allows you to program brewing up to 24 hours in advance and set an auto shut-off time, as well as providing alerts to tell you when brewing is complete and when the machine needs to be descaled. The FME2 also has a 1-3 cup setting that ensures you get the best flavor from every pot, no matter the size. If you just can’t wait for that first cup, this coffee maker’s drip-stop feature lets you sneak a cup before the full pot is brewed.
Controls:
4 buttons on the FME2’s control panel control this coffee maker. On the right side of the digital display you’ll find the On/Off button and directly below it, the Hours and Minutes Setting button. To the left of the display sit the Progamming button and the 1-3 Cup Flavor Setting button. The Hours and Minutes button allows you to set the current time and, when used in conjunction with the Programming button, makes it possible for you to program a brew time up to 24 hours in advance and set the auto-off time from 1 to 5 hours after brewing is completed. If you’d rather brew on the spot, simply press the On/Off button and the brewing process will start right away. If you’re planning to brew a small pot, press the 1-3 cup button prior to brewing. This option alters the rate at which water flows over the coffee grounds to provide a full-flavored taste from a partial pot.
Performance:
The combination of simple design, useful features, and quality brewing components makes the FME2 an easy choice. The well-designed control panel makes it easy to take advantage of the FME2’s options, such as programmable brew time and auto shut off. In addition, this drip coffee maker offers some features that are hard to find on other models, namely a descaling indicator and the ability to turn off the audible “brewing complete” indicator. The FME2 also contains a cascading showerhead that more evenly disperses water over the ground coffee in the filter basket, providing a more even extraction, and a DuoFilter water filtration system. These 2 components and the easy-to-use control panel ensure a great tasting pot of coffee every time with minimal effort.
Construction:
Simple and compact, this coffee machine blends easily into any décor. Its sleek plastic housing features rounded corners and a brushed finish that make it pleasing to the eye. On the left side of the machine, you’ll find an external water level indicator that allows you to see exactly how much water you’ve added to the reservoir without having to guess. A lid on top of the machine leads to the reservoir and keeps it separate from the filter holder, which is accessible through the front of the machine. Pressing a button on the right side of the FME2 swings the filter holder out from the front of the unit, so removal and replacement of the filter and filter holder are very easy. Every component of the FME2 is easily accessible, making this coffee maker very simple to use.
Carafe:
The FME2’s 12-cup glass carafe features large-print water level indicators. This is an especially helpful feature when you’re making partial pots of coffee. In addition, the carafe and its plastic lid are entirely dishwasher safe.
Hot Plate:
With its non-stick coating, the FME2’s hot plate makes it easy to clean up any drips or spills. The hot plate has its own dedicated heating element to keep coffee hot and can be programmed to turn off anywhere between 1and 5 hours after brewing is complete.
Reservoir:
Simply flip open the lid on top of the coffee maker to access the reservoir. This is a fairly standard way to get to the reservoir, but if the machine will be sitting under a cabinet, you’ll want to keep in mind that having the lid open adds an additional 3 or 4 inches to its overall height. Although there are no water level markings inside the reservoir, there is an easy-to-read water level indicator mounted on the front left side of the machine, so you’ll always know how much water you’ve added.
Water Filtration:
The Krups DuoFilter helps to remove chlorine and scale from your water. This double-action, vegetable-based water filter improves the flavor of your coffee and increases the amount of time between descaling cycles. A dedicated water filter holder sets right into the reservoir and features a monthly indicator to remind you when to change the filter. If your water is soft, you’ll want to change the filter after approximately 120 brewing cycles or every 4 months. If you have particularly hard water, the DuoFilter should be changed after approximately 80 brewing cycles or every 2 months.
Coffee Filter:
The Krups FME2 comes with #4 paper filters. However, you can also purchase a permanent filter (#049) at Whole Latte Love using the link below.
Accessories/Re-order:
